Nomad Wallet

Travel More. You Can Afford It.

About

If you’re wondering what Nomad Wallet is about…

…it all started with one question:

How do regular people afford to travel?

My name is Deia (hint: rhymes with Princess Leia). I wanted to travel more and I couldn’t stop thinking about this question. So I decided to write a blog about it.

Nomad Wallet is about how travelers handle money and other practical things.

Join me in finding the answer to this question: How can I travel more?

More specifically:

  • How can I get cheap flights and hotels?
  • Are there cheaper alternatives to flights and hotels?
  • Are there ways to fly and stay for free?
  • How can I earn money as I travel?
  • How can I save money to travel?

Since I published my first post in September 2013, Nomad Wallet has come a long way.

Interviews have been a big part of Nomad Wallet since Day 1. And I still believe that it’s important to see how real travelers use tricks like house-sitting and travel hacking in the real world to help them stay on the road. I try to post an interview every two weeks, but I’m a rogue blogger who won’t let a schedule tell me what to do. ;)

Aside from the interviews, I write about ways to travel more cheaply, save more money and earn more money while traveling.

I also keep an updated list of travel resources I use to book my trips, as well as a list of ongoing travel promotions and coupon codes so you can travel more cheaply.

I don’t stick to a fixed schedule. I usually publish new posts on Tuesdays and Fridays, but I don’t post every Tuesday and every Friday.

About Me

I was born in Indonesia and I lived there until I was 13. Since then, I’ve moved every few years. I’ve lived in six different cities all over Asia, Australia, and North America.

I love exploring new places, but I don’t have it in me to just pack a bag and go, like some of the travelers I’ve interviewed. I’d be too anxious about running out of money to enjoy myself.

And I know there are probably more people like me out there, who want to travel without risking poverty and destitution. In a way, Nomad Wallet is my personal research project into how real people travel. It exists for the selfish reason of me wanting to figure it out for myself so I can travel more.

Hmmm what else…? I studied media and finance in university. I never planned to use those skills to write about personal finance on the new media that is the Internet, but life’s funny like that.

I’m a pretty private person. I prefer writing about things and places rather than myself. In fact, writing all these things about myself for the whole Internet to see is making me uncomfortable, so I’m going to stop here. The whole reason I put this section at the end is because I was hoping you’d have stopped reading by now. ;)

Still Here?

Whoa, you must really like what you’re reading. Why not subscribe to Nomad Wallet so you’ll never miss anything?
